Who we are

Specialist power-quality engineering — and nothing else

Unity Power Solutions is a specialist power-quality and energy-optimisation engineering company serving industrial, commercial, utility and infrastructure clients across Southern Africa.

Every engagement begins by quantifying the financial and operational cost of poor power quality, then resolving it with proven technology — protecting capital assets, lowering energy spend and improving reliability. Clients receive engineering they can audit and a return they can see.

We work directly with end users and as the specialist power-quality partner to engineering consultancies, contractors and renewable-energy developers. Our recommendations follow the site evidence and the client's commercial interest — never a single product line.

What we do

A full power-quality capability

From diagnosis through to corrective hardware, installation and long-term support — delivered as engineering, design, supply and ongoing care.

Power Quality Assessments

On-site recording and analysis of supply quality — voltage, unbalance, dips, swells and disturbance — against NRS 048-2, IEC 61000-4-30 and IEEE 519.

Learn more

Power Factor Correction

Detuned-reactor capacitor banks and intelligent controllers that cut reactive demand, lower utility penalties and release transformer capacity.

Learn more

Active Harmonic Filtering

Semiconductor-based active filters that measure load harmonics in real time and inject equal, opposing current — cancelling distortion and restoring a clean waveform.

Learn more

Static Var Generation

Fast, dynamic reactive compensation for rapidly changing loads such as welding plant and furnaces — correcting power factor instantly where capacitors cannot respond.

Learn more

Energy Optimisation & Audits

Survey and analysis of energy flows to expose where energy and money are being lost — the basis for efficiency improvement and a reduced carbon footprint.

Learn more

Metering & Monitoring

Revenue, check and sub-metering plus permanent power monitoring — turning raw recordings into clear, accountable, reportable performance.

Our engineering philosophy

Measure · Correct · Verify

Record the network against standards, engineer the correction to the measured condition, then prove the outcome on the same instruments. No assumptions carried forward, no unverified claims handed over.

1

Assess

On-site recording and analysis of supply quality against NRS 048-2, IEC 61000 and IEEE 519.

2

Engineer

Solutions sized to the measured load profile, harmonic spectrum and network conditions.

3

Implement

Supply, assembly and commissioning of correction, filtering and switchgear systems.

4

Verify & Support

Post-installation verification, monitoring, operator training and ongoing maintenance.

The business case

Hidden electrical losses, turned into recoverable value

Poor power quality is rarely visible on a balance sheet, yet it drives up demand charges, ages equipment prematurely and interrupts production. Each outcome below is quantified before and after installation on independent power analysers.

Reduced operating cost

Lower maximum-demand and reactive-energy charges, often with a clear, documented payback period.

Improved power quality

Harmonic distortion and voltage disturbance brought within standard limits across the facility.

Improved reliability

Fewer nuisance trips, equipment failures and production interruptions from harmonic and overload stress.

Extended equipment life

Lower harmonic currents and thermal stress protect transformers, cabling, motors and electronics.

Energy efficiency

Less energy wasted converting and distributing power, reducing losses caused by harmonics and reactive current.

Standards compliance

Networks assessed and corrected against NRS 048-2, IEC 61000-4-30 and IEEE 519 at supply and PCC.

Capacity released

Lower apparent-power demand frees transformer and cable headroom — deferring costly upgrades.

Improved sustainability

Reduced electrical losses support energy-reduction targets and corporate sustainability initiatives.

Why it matters

An operational and financial issue — long before it becomes an engineering one

Left unmanaged, poor power quality raises costs, shortens asset life and interrupts production — quietly, and often invisibly on the balance sheet. Unity Power Solutions identifies, quantifies and resolves these issues, converting a hidden operating risk into measurable value.

Proven result

Textile plant: distortion and power factor brought back within limits

A textile manufacturer in KwaZulu-Natal had very high harmonics and poor power factor, with voltage distortion exceeding the 8% limit and total demand distortion exceeding IEEE 519 limits at both incomers — causing frequent equipment failures. A custom active harmonic filter system corrected the network.

Why clients choose us

Specialist focus, independent advice, verified outcomes

01

Specialist expertise

Power quality is our sole focus, not a sideline — giving faster diagnosis and solutions that perform under demanding industrial conditions.

02

OEM-agnostic solutions

Equipment selected on technical merit, lifecycle value and client outcomes rather than brand preference.

03

Proven engineering process

A disciplined assess–correct–confirm process applied to every project and refined across dozens of installations.

04

Evidence-led recommendations

Every proposal is built on recorded site conditions — harmonic spectra, load profiles and power factor — never rules of thumb.

05

Quality implementation

Custom-built panels and careful commissioning, executed to recognised electrical standards and safe working practice.

06

Quantified outcomes

Improvements appear where they count — equipment reliability, demand charges and the monthly utility account.

Let's talk

Start with a measurement.

Most power-quality problems are invisible until they are recorded. A site assessment shows exactly what your network is doing — and what it is costing.
